Asahi, the only way

by Ed on July 22, 2005

Usually for something special I’d walk up Flinders Lane, duck right just before the Flinders Lane Gallery and into the basement known as Yu-u. I did last night but the best thing I had all night was a large glass of Asahi on tap – the only way to drink it. Oh, okay, the sashumi was great and the prawn dumplings weren’t bad. But the chicken Yakitori (skewers) were dried out and the scallops with mushroom really didn’t hit the mark.
Still at $65 a head for the chef’s menu with beer and saki isn’t bad value. But can a restaurant or a chef afford to have a bad night?
Perhaps I’ll find a new hideout for a while. One with Asahi on tap, at least.
