It’s a near perfect 20 degrees in the house on this grey, day. The label says I should drink this Italian red at 18C. I should get away with it and for good measure I decant.First impressions: A lighter righter red than I expected. Will it withstand the rare 400g rib-eye steak I have planned with sweet potato chips? The wine did just, but I was forced to share the meat with two small dogs. There is a hint of the spice islands in this wine. Perhaps roses but certainly a memory of leather – or perhaps that’s my distant memory of leather against willow and the British Ashes victory. This wine seems stronger than its 13.5%. It looks light but is complex, easier to sip than glug. While it can withstand bloody red meat, I’d save this for a thick rare tuna steak or some pasta.
