Warming food for a cold night

Note: Hewitson has now moved to Barney AllensIan Hewitson may be a bit daggy. Sure he’s lost weight but let’s face it his jokes are as cheesy as the (very good) burgers he sells at Tolarno Bar and Bistro 42 Fitzroy St, St Kilda (03 9525 5477). And the Mirka Moira friezes daubed around the windows and walls are found a tad creepy by some people.At lot of bloggers may not realise this, but he was the hottest celebrity chef in Melbourne in the 1980s.And the professionalism behind Huey shows at Tolarno. Although old-fashioned, his food is wholesome and tasty, some may say home cooked in style. His waiters are professional. And (add two points Stephen Downes) his napkins are the real thing.Tomato recommends his Shepherds Pie on a cold night, which comes with buttered cabbage on the side. It came to our table a bit too hot, and at near $20 is pricey, but this is heart-warming stuff. Enjoy. But don’t burn your tongue.The place always has a good crowd. Recenty Red Symonds’
