G'day. If you're new here, and you are interested in the Melbourne food and drink scene you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed or the email newsletter below. Thanks for visiting and enjoy eating and drinking in Melbourne. Cheers.
Food blogging has arrived in Australia. At least an article about food blogging was spruiked on the front page of the Sydney Morning Herald yesterday and the front page of Good Living. The shame of it is that the article, excellent in itself and written by the excellent Jay Rayner, was first published in The Observer about six weeks ago and didn’t really go into the local scene.I’m not complaining because Tomato was missed - we are a Melbourne blog and irrelevent to the Sydney audience. I’m just saying that it was a missed opportunity. They could have gone to one of the food blogger picnics run by saffron at The Food Palate. They could have noted the Aussie food bloggers site ring run by Augustus Gloop. The sad truth is that this article would have cost $1,500 to $2,000 to write locally. It probably cost about $300 to reprint with a few sites thrown-in, thanks to a web surf by Seamus Byrne.

You’ll notice that many articles in the SMH/The Age are syndicated from the Guardian and its weekend sister The Observer, not to mention The Times and The Daily Mail.
But I agree with you wholeheartedly on the lack of local content. It’s not like we foodbloggers are ever short of content! =)
Thanks for highlighting this. Quite interesting that I have received quite a few emails from people saying they were dissapointed with the lack of local content. Perhaps someone should write to SMH saying so.
AG, you also highlighted something very important; where are all the female food blogger. Hmph! I suppose we need to start burning our aprons or something
Not sure how I got in coming from the invisible city but it did seem like a missed opportunity and a bit of laziness. Keep at them and it’ll happen. Perth’s only newspaper has done one story on blogs and it was someone that none of us have heard of.
