Kangaroos are at the waterhole. Lizards and snakes bake on the road. Bees buzz in the clover while parrots dart in between the vines. Welcome to Australia’s Pyrenees. Drought has hit some of the vinyards hard. They haven’t had a decent drop of rain since December 2002.
This has brought down yields and makes it the ideal place for us to find a wine made in less than 250 cases for November’s Wine Blogging Wednesday. Click here to see part 1 in our comic book search for that wine.

The Pyrenees is one of my very favourite wine regions. My good friend (who just moved to Japan and started up his own blog) comes from St Arnaud nearby, and I spent many years having no idea I was driving through such a fab wine area to get to his place. Eventually I wised up; it’s my favourite country drive up the Sunraysia Hwy, dipping in and out to the local wineries.
You are right it is great. I’ve always been a fan of the Mornington Peninsula but I could see myself in a shack in the hills here – enjoying some local reds. I think I’ve seen your friends blog in Japan. I need to get into some minimalism in food and get out of my Fat Elvis phase.
Never anything wrong with a fat Elvis phase. I seem to be pigeon-holed as a baking blog, so I’m going to embrace the Elvisness that implies and embrace my butter.
Yes, you’ve seen Lucas’s blog – thanks for visiting. I think you’re the first commenter other than me!
