Today we bought a bottle of Puilly Fuissé for nearly AUS40. We opened it half an hour ago. It was corked. Yuk! It smelt of mouldy cardboard and was, well, just plain horrible.
I’m on the phone to Vintage Cellars South Melbourne ready to get angry and indignant as they say tought luck.
This is what realy happened:
Tomato: “I just bought a bottle of Poully Fuissé for about $40 and it was corked. Can you do an exchange?”
VC: Sure, yes. Just bring the receipt and we’ll exchange it.”
Tomato: Okay, I’ll pop round tomorrow. Thanks”
I was impressed. Something like one in ten bottles using cork are corked. I wonder how many other retailers have this policy. I may set out to find out. Vintage Cellars is owed by the supermarket giant Coles Myer and I mostly go to smaller local suppliers. This could change my mind though.
Vintage Cellars currently has sale of 20% off for six bottles or more. I bought a dozen today but may do the same when I swap this one tomorrow.
If you are in Australia get down there now. My pick is the Yalumba Y series Viognier. It’s superb value at $13.69. It’s even better with 20% off. Get on down.
Cheers!
This is impressive: swapping a corked wine

Why on earth would you pay so much for Yalumba Viognier when it can be bought for $8.99 at DM’s (and if you wait till it comes “on special” for $7.99?} It is a cracker of a wine.
For your info, VC are obliged by law to replace faulty products. They are not “out of pocket” as the wholesaler will credit them for the”dud” bottle.
Try the Yalumba Shiraz Viognier, also. It’s phenomenal value.
Cheers.
Because I didn’t know that but will be over to DMs to stock up on it and cut my losses. Yeah, I’ve been lucky enought to be sent pretty much the whole range by Yalumba – plus a Viognier lunch at Longrain!
