How to scam free drinks. Yeah!

How is it that restaurants keep forgetting to charge me for so many drinks. What is astonishing is how often it happens. I don’t set out to scam free drinks and sometimes I even notice we weren’t charged. When I have noticed I’ve almost always tipped better (Usually at least 10 per cent) than usual. Could this be a scam by wait staff to get better tips? If it were, I’d love to know

Try these out and see how you go:

1. http://www.mrwolf.com.au/, 9-15 Inkerman Street, St Kilda, Vic 3182 +61 9534 0255

Started in the Mr Wolf bar next door. The tab was meant to be transferred to our restaurant bill but it wasn’t. About $30 of free wine!

2. Vanitas at Palazzo Versace, 94 Seaworld Drive, Main Beach, Queensland +61 7 5509 8000
Re-examining the bill when I wrote my review I realized that two bottles (yes, two!) didn’t even make it to the bill. That’s about $130 worth of free wine.

3. Longrain, 44 Little Bourke St, Melbourne, Vic, 3000 +61 3 9671 5131
Four cocktails and peanuts in the bar prior to eating. Over $60.

4. Spuntino, 56 Acland Street, St Kilda 3182 +61 3 9525 4322
That last bottle of wine, ordered by somebody why I think wasn’t handling our table. About $50 in our favour.

Tips to scam free drinks

1. Start with drinks in the bar first and ask if you can put it on credit. It is on the transfer from bar to restaurant that mistakes most frequently occur.
2. Once at the table, ask for subsequent drinks from different staff to those who took the order.

3. Give staff extra tip.

4. Smile knowingly to yourself on the way out.

If free drinks make you happy, have a look at this new website http://www.schweppes.com.au. Some of Australia’s best restaurants and bars are offering free drinks and dining discounts.
