Pete Wells, the event kicks off 13 March

by Ed on February 21, 2006

Yes, to (dis)honour Food&Wine magazine’s columnist Pete Wells, who has got under the skin of more than a few cheese sandwich munchers I figured this is a great way to get under his skin.
Post and EaT Everything WeekEnd Lame LeftoverS (PETE WELLS, geddit!) will be hosted here the second weekend of every month and I shall post a roundup Monday evening.
This is all about the mundane and nearly rotten stuff leftover in the kitchen that you could throw out or recycle or make into something delicious.
I’m talking sub cheese sandwich here, probably the crusts.
Inspired while reading about cheese sandwiches last weekend, I found J had thrown out over ripe strawberries (I could have made a smoothy) and that apart from croutons and breacrumbs I’m not very imaginative with my dried out bread crusts.
The aim is to draw out all those traditional recipes that recycle what now we leave for waste.
To make this be really effective don’t forget to technorati tag your posts
Kick-off for round one is the weekend of the w/end of 11/12th March. I’ll post the roundup on Monday 13th.
So come along, join in and help publicise this new fun, and what will turn out to be useful, event.
Simply leave a link to your entry in comments here or send it through the old-fashioned way.
I shall work on a logo.

Sounds like a great challenge. I’ve got some beef cheeks and week old okra sitting there begging to be thrown out.

Hmmm beef cheek and okra curry anyone?

Ed Charles February 21, 2006 at 8:05 pm

Sounds excellent. Reminds me I must get some cheeks in myself. But first the leftovers…

I’ve also got some ox tongue… might have to make something tongue ‘n’ cheek. (bad pun intended)

Ed Charles February 21, 2006 at 9:54 pm

Okay, I’m a tactile deviant. That rough tongue makes my hair stand on end; I need the skin cut off. it’s taken a lifetime to manage to touch peaches. I like what you’re saying though. Have you a copy of “Nose to Tail Eating”?

M February 21, 2006 at 10:18 pm

I like the sound of that. I’ll definitely have to grab a copy soon.

I don’t think I could eat tongue with the skin on either. Braising and skinning is the only way to go.

Sounds very fun. I will put it on my blog calendar. I couldn’t miss a chance to use my leftover comments on Mr. Wells, could I?

Love it! Great idea. I’ll start saving leftovers for something special. You could always try crust & mature butter pudding …

LOL! What a creative idea!

Am I the first? Here is my contribution for Pete Wells: Ethiopian-inspired Beef Stew with Spätzle

I had a blast! Thank you!

Hi, I recycled my leftovers to a free-style fried rice. It is just as interesting to talk about leftovers as about cheese sandwiches ;)
