Top 20 food bloggers in Australia

by Ed on February 19, 2006

Last week New York Magazine looked at the Haves and Have Nots in blogging. I wanted to know whether or not whether I had a chance on the world stage to become a B list or even A list blogger. To be on the A list – the top 100 – you’ll need almost 2,300 links to your site. The famous Chocolate & Zucchini has 1,295 links at the timeof writing.
The lessons to be learned in jumping up the rankings are:
- the longer you’ve been at it the more links and traffic you will have
- the more social you are in leaving comments and joining events the more traffic you will have
- As clare has found, cat blogging is very popular. A cat blog ranks No.60. Microsoft’s Robert Scoble is 59!

Ah but Ed if you looked at eatstuff.blogspot.com I would be number 1 ;)
Technorati Rank: 11,126 (691 links from 134 sites)

That’s true and the new domain has raced up the rankings in two months proving that cats are winners. I thought I’d update this once a month to track movements.

Umm, Taste everything once is from Spokane Washington, that’s what the WA stands for

Ed Charles February 20, 2006 at 5:23 pm

Thanks Jo. revised and now Jamie at the Breakfast Blog has snuck into tenth place and raging Yoghurt 20.

I feel so validated now.

Do you think I should get a cat?

Ed Charles February 21, 2006 at 12:19 pm

I’d get a cat quick before Clare takes the top spot. Personally, I’m saving ours for when my ratings slide.

LOL

I didn’t mean it like that…. I was just shocked, is all……

Definately not :P

It’s interesting; what’s the difference between links and sites? Evidently sites count for something more than links, otherwise I’d be ahead of Grab Your Fork (which I imagine I would never be). Where did you compile the information? Really interesting.

Ed Charles February 28, 2006 at 5:44 pm

It’s a bit like traffic in that unique sites are more important than the total number of sites/links. Of course, this isn’t the whole picture. the idea is that the more unique sites linking and the more traffic you get. There are plans afoot for a local type of Technorati style tracker which hopefully will aid finding local blogs.

Any way to find local blogs more easily sounds like a good one. I spent months thinking I was alone in the Australian foodblogging world before slowly starting to find the others.

Holy cow, better pay more attention to what I am doing!

Jennifer March 22, 2006 at 12:41 am

Wow! Now I wish I was from Australia! Is there a Spokane there too?

Ed Charles March 22, 2006 at 3:39 am

No Spokane bur Wa as in Western Australia. hence the mix up. I’m about to update this in some new fangled way.
