Wow! A package from South Korea.

Since a tiny child I’ve always been fascinated by all that stuff in continental supermarkets. From Oaxaca to Positano, I’ve trousered those strangely names brightly coloured brands.
Now thanks to Jelly over at I got two shoes and Blogging By Mail (hosted by Food Ninja) I’ve enough of this stuff, rummaged through by the Australian Customs Service, to fill a pair of grandpa sized undies.
I don’t even know how to type most of this stuff let alone what it is.
But with the help of a large magnifying glass I have discovered that one tin, contains insects. A tin of insects.
I think they may be the pupae from silk worms. I recognise them from my visits to the silk farm at Ayot St Lawrence (where grumpy George Bernard Shaw lived. I have excellent memories of the Brocket Arms pub and now ex-girlfriends).
Jelly tells me I should serve them on cocktail sticks. Hmmmm.
Perhaps I’ll stick with the soybean paste for which Jelly sent me the recipe for, you guessed it, bean paste soup. I hope to blog this soon.
Actually, I’m looking forward to creating something with the seasoned sesame seeds and have gorged my self on the various chocolates, toffees and other delicacies that I have no idea how to type. And because of that I can tell you no more although I will update you on some of the items – when I dare to open them.

yes, they are something from the silkworm, though calling it “pupae” sure sounds better than what my family calls it: “larvae.” LOL!
they are usually a bar snack, something to eat while drinking. personally, i have never tried them, and would have to be well past 10 shots of tequila to put one in my mouth

I shall serve them to an unsuspecting dinner party!I’d been thinking about making a risotto with them. I read somewhere that Woodlice taste like shrimp and work well with rice. I’d imagine the grey colour would be a bit offputting though.LOL!
Where have I seen those silkworms before? Oh, here…
