All change in the food blog top 20

by Ed on May 20, 2006

Okay these lists are fiddly to do and Food for Thought (in at 15) just reminded me that I left him out.
Three months ago I first listed the Aussie top 20 bloggers. I’m doing it with the technorati ranking based on links. Here we are again with a complete shake up and eight new entries with, incredibly Cook everything at least once entering straight at seven and the Food pornographer at number eight.
This knocked everybody else back a few places. Three blogs left the listing simply because they hadn’t posted for ages.
Eat Stuff was number four back in February, but this was artificial and caused by a domain change. It’s now number one but more for the cat side of the business than the food. I’ve nothing against cats but the ruling queen of Aussie food blogging really has to Helen (Augustus Gloop) at Grab your Fork.
One trend among the leading blogs is that they have lost links. Saffron at The Food Palate swapped places with me. She lost links from 16 sites while I gained a lucky 13.
Meanwhile, we have seen some excellent new blogs many who fall out of the top 20.
If I’ve missed you out, please let me know. It is difficult to find a definitive list of local food bloggers even through the new local blog search Gnoos (which is after Beta testers). I just need the time to tot them all up so it may not happen.
The only way to build links fast is to participate in and if you are lucky host a food blogging event. Otherwise most links are general ones to the blog, not specific posts.
So with half an eye on Anthony over at Spiceblog, I’m off for some Weekend Herb blogging and what ever else I can find.

Do wine blogs qualify? I’m sure that Vinosense/Winorama and maybe some of the other ones would make the top 20 list if they did qualify.

hey ben from gnoos here. lets chat and see if we can help. we’re refining currently the ability to find blogs by name / title / category :) but we have the great majority of aussie food blogs. either way if we can help, great ! bb email me at above address redbarren @ gmail

Ed Charles May 21, 2006 at 11:58 am

Cam, you’re right I should include wine blogs. If I get time later I’ll have a bash.

Ben I’ll shoot you a mail later and gather my thoughts. Right now I have a dog to walk.

I’m crying onto my keyboard, with my 48 from 25 would’ve hoped to sneak in.

Benjamin Christie May 21, 2006 at 7:15 pm

Just to let you know, that the links to the sites are not working…. I lost 2 spots, just been too busy to blog…

And I agree the soundtrack is annoying.. Ill try and turn it off.

Cheers

Benjamin

Mine’s a blog barely alive.

Ed Charles May 22, 2006 at 9:51 am

Tankeduptaco. You were there but somehow got deleted when I was shuffling the list. I’ve corrected it now.

Spiceman – you can’t be serious.

Ed Charles May 22, 2006 at 10:26 am

Hi Benjamin. Sorry my Spam filter caught you. I turned it up the other day after a pile of very sneaky stuff arrived and slipped through. Thanks for the note on the links. They should work now. What I have to live with is the fact that everytime I sit down and blog somebody pops up nagging me to do something else…I get distracted and the rest is history. The music is only a personal thing. I may do a post: most annoying music on a restaurant website!

Benjamin Christie May 22, 2006 at 10:49 am

Ed, thats cool

Actually the music was the TV advert for where the bloody hell are you from Tourism Australia. I removed it now.

Cheers

Benjamin

Ed Charles May 22, 2006 at 11:15 am

benjamin. Just been to your site. The the bloody hell’s the music!

tankeduptaco May 22, 2006 at 12:41 pm

No graphics but decent writing…thats made my day.

AugustusGloop May 22, 2006 at 3:29 pm

Queen bee or Drama Queen? I prefer King Glutton but meh, I’ll take it =P

Ed Charles May 22, 2006 at 5:45 pm

Tankeduptaco
Glad to have been a ray of light. The original link that I lost said soething like”this is the place you’ll find afterbirth…”

Augustus I’ll remember the King Glutton bit for next time. Can’t help being cheeky down here!

Sarah May 22, 2006 at 9:05 pm

K Pounder May 22, 2006 at 9:55 pm

Thanks for including me in the top 20 Aussie food bloggers Esp. seeing as I was no. 21.

Ed Charles May 22, 2006 at 11:01 pm

Hi Sarah

I sort of did but I still have to check each one to see if it’s still live and then indivdually paste each one into technorati for a ranking. I think I should link. 90 food blogs!

Hey Veggie Friendly No problems. It was a good blog that Trevor Cook first told me about and I said I’d give you a mention. You were no.20 at first but I accidentally left out one which bumped you up. Nice blog too with reviews well done.

Matt May 23, 2006 at 6:17 pm

Well I can’t complain at coming in 17th when I post irregularly and comment even less. It’s all about maintaining my surly blogger street cred.

“Real food” is a nice description, although I’m not sure what it implies about the rest of the list :)

Ed Charles May 23, 2006 at 6:24 pm

Hi Matt, I was trying to be witty – as in abstract vs real!

Matt May 23, 2006 at 6:31 pm

Hey Ed,

Good point… better read up on my antonyms.

Also I think a comment of mine on the DMBLGIT post went missing… Still in shock over that outcome.

Cheers,
Matt

Ed Charles May 23, 2006 at 6:44 pm

Antowhats? I think I know what happened – you commented while I was swapping ISPs. At the time Smartyhost was so bad I just couldn’t get into the system. i also left behind a whole load of pics that I must now transfer. Sometimes also comments get held in spam for a while. i turned my filter up a notch the other day because of the bloody spammers…I hope i catch all the legit ones.

Elliot December 19, 2008 at 1:49 pm

Hey C’mon Ed
Just because my blog is casual, occasionally inaccurate and poorly researched and includes the, previously undescribed, odd spelling or grammatical construction is no reason to leave it out of the list. Never mind about technocrati! Where for example is At My Table recently listed in the HUN among the five best?

Ed December 19, 2008 at 3:21 pm

Hey, Elliot – this is from 2006. I’m about to post a list of over 200 local blogs. What is a top five is anybody’s guess and I chose them while trying to read my editor’s mind to what she’d like for the demographic.
