Mousse di ricotta con coiccolata, cedro candito o basilico
(Ricotta mousse with chocolate, candied cedar peel or basil

Ilva at Lucullian delights - an Italian experience is the unanimous winner of April’s Does My Blog Look Good in This.
As judges, we were lucky to have the Aussie celebrity f–die couple Terry Durack (restaurant reviewer for The Independent on Sunday in London and European editor of Gourmet Traveller a regular contributor to Travel & Leisure, a food writer for Good Weekend in Australia, and a columnist for Olive in the UK ) and Jill Dupleix (The Times cook in London). Food writers are obviously exposed to food photography but Jill now shoots her own food. It is her pictures that appear in The Times and in her new book, Simple Food.
Both took their judging very seriously and they scored and commented on every entry. The full spreadsheet can be downloaded here. I’ll post the next five tomorrow.
Terry: “Hugely appealing, great use of colour”
Jill: “Gorgeous shot, very modern, love the styling and varied toppings and the light”

No.2 49/60

Matt at Abstract Gourmet was cheeky in entering two pictures and scored the no.2 and no.3 pics. His Parnsip Bisque (soup for the homely types) is just the ind of thing I want to tuck into on this cold Saturday evening.

Terry: “Good feel, nice intrigue.”
Jill: “Love the presentation, the dark bowls, the garnish, the composition, the soup.”

No.3 48/60

Wasabi Risotto with Daikon & Pickled Ginger
Matt started this entry: “Yes, I know what you’re thinking. Wasabi Risotto….So here is my first foray into the world of experimental flavours and (dare I say it) fusion cuisine.” He’s right I was thinking that but our judges put any prejudices aside.

Terry: “Love the dots”
Jill: “Very cute idea and presentation, let down a little by lighting”
Matt: “Ouch!”

No.4 46/60

Tarts!

L at Cookbook 411 comes in at four with a quartet of tasty rustic tarts (although somehow only three made it into the picture).
Terry: “Earthy, rustic, appealing”
Jill: “Very cute, casual, modern, the style says its good picnic food”

No.5 45/60

Candied Peel
Self confessed geek girl Kitarra at Cooking Debauchery has figured out how to candy grapefruit and shot the crystalised results.
Terry: “Textures good, colour good, nice drama.”
Jill: “Dramatic ECU does a good job of showing crystallisation, tells the story.”

Grape glut

Okay, this is embarrassing. It’s me. Perhaps I shouldn’t have entered.
Terry: “Good bright, in your face stuff.”
Jill: “I love ECU’s like this, very romantic.”

Hi Ed

Glad to see you’re back. Nice work with the DMBLGIT!! One of the best yet!

Hey Ed!
Nice to see your blog. I really like it!
I’m not sure I did the right thing though.. I wanted to upload some of my pictures to ‘does my blog look good in this’.. I created a username and password, and I couldn’t find any better way to proceed than creating a new album.. but now I see I have a ‘personal album’, and apparently no other user does! So, I don’t want to be messing up your website.. sorry! How can I remove this album and upload pictures like other users do?
Thanks and sorry :)

Thanks Lucas. It was a bit scrappy as my original ISp let me down and I had to moove and was down for a while.

Chemcookit. I hope you got my email. For everyone else I’m not totally on top of this photo software and becoming a member of the gallery may not be enabled.

Ehm - I got an email with exactly the same post that was on the website. Not sure if that’s what you mean. So should I put some pictures in the gallery that I made or not?

I am honoured and slightly shocked to see both my entries in the top 5… But then I’ve always been one to hedge my bets :)
I found the lightinng comment a little funny though, as if you could see how I took most of my photos you’d be suprised you can see anything at all :)

Thanks for hosting the event Ed (and also Kylee in your absence). I have been proudly showing this to anyone who will look.

Just to reiterate my previous comment that must have gotten lost… Boo yah !

The lighting comment was funny because that was the only photo I’ve ever taken where I actually tried to get the lighting right.

Thanks again for hosting the event Ed.

Cheers,
Matt

Ahh, forget the last comment then… seems you pulled the last one back out of the ether.
