Through a Gnoos search I stumbled across old media dressed as new in the shape of the Good Living blog. It’s first entry, Monday last week made it clear that this really is a half hearted attempt my old media at blogging. It is purely designed to trawl the web for comments, which the paper will then publish the old-fashioned way (I guess there is still a buzz in being inked to a page). And it worked loads of people commented.
The second entry appeared yesterday:
“Tell us if ethics play a role when purchasing food. Do labels such as FairTrade, Rainforest Alliance or Organic influence your shopping habits? Why or why not”
See what I mean about trawling for free content. Although I suppose they are moving in the right direction.
When I looked just now, 18 people had commented.
As yet no blog at The Age for Epicure although the paper has employed some community editors to develop blogs online.
I can hardly wait for next Monday’s topic. Really!

I thought the SMH blog was an interesting exercise, although I only dipped in once last week for a read. It obviously open the official season on scorching La Grainger and his digs, after he’d been billed as their ‘new fabo contributor’ for several weeks. Well, if they ask for comments, they’ll get it! Aussies must still have a eye out to trim the heads off those poppies!
Hi DrREb. Sorry my junk filter caught yu for a while for some reason. Actually, I thought the whole Bill Granger thing funny. I can remember reading about how he kept piles of steak in his freezer. Nice to have the opportunity to offer comments but they aren’t really making the effort. From reading the media section of the Australian I saw that I think thereare some demarkation issues between journalists filing copy for the paper and content for blogs so maybe that’s what is holding them back. Meanwhile, in Melbourne we’re still waiting…
