Ping pong

Something is rotten in the state of Ping 49 Beach St Port Melbourne 3207 VIC Australia +61 3 9681 8881). I’m being harsh, as their food is excellent and I can assure you that nothing is rotten in the kitchen.
But the service is dreadful right now although I had a great evening there on Friday as I was with good friends.

1. Bad meet and greet at the door and had to wait ages in the bar for the drinks menu.
2. Had to wait ages for drinks service and then the other three drinks arrived and I had to wait another five minutes viewing mine 10 metres away on the bar.
3. Out of the short and very focused wine list, there was only a single opened bottle of Shiraz available (four glasses worth, apparently) and they ran out of another wine we chose (apparently they are short because the owner is away for four days).
4. They had run out of the tea we chose.
5. Service was very slow. But I suppose when the owner’s away the staff will play.

On a more positive note, the lavatories were clean on this visit.

Anyway, plenty of new restaurants to try.

Don’t forget my fish was overcooked, dry and tasteless

at least it was OPEN when you went there. I rocked up for a lunch to find it robustly closed.

Hi Plum, What day of the week was that? i thought they were open seven days.

Yup, the door states they are open 7 days a week (dinner and lunch) and yet last Monday they were shut. I wouldn’t normally go out for lunch on a Monday but was in the area and thought I’d give it a go. Or not.
