G'day. If you're new here, and you are interested in the Melbourne food and drink scene you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed or the email newsletter below. Thanks for visiting and enjoy eating and drinking in Melbourne. Cheers.
Cam at Appellation Australia, who started listing wine bloggers down here, suggested I should pull the food and the wine bloggers’ listings together. And I will. First though to identify who the pure wine bloggers are. There are fewer than the food bloggers so my mind hasn’t overheated and I’ve realised the flaw in my listing of food bloggers.
When a blog in Technorati isn’t registered it just discloses the number of links. To date I have equated this to the number of sites linking which, of course, is wrong. This is bad news for a couple of food blogs who will fall down the rankings.
What I’ve done is work out the average number of links one site will point to another, which seems to be key in the technorati ranking formula. On average there are just over 2.5 links on average from a site to another. So in creating a ranking for a blog I’ve divided by 2.5. Of course, while links are an indication of site traffic, they aren’t the whole answer.
Next, when my Macbook Pro arrives and I fathom OPML, I merge the two charts and we have our top food & wine bloggers.
Meanwhile, it looks like I could be put out of business of listing food & wine bloggers as local Aussie blog search engine Gnoos (you should its cool features) will be listing top bloggers. Ben Barren the dude behind this venture recently told the Sydney Morning Herald that currently topping the ranks were pop culture site The spin starts here, Darren Rowse’s ProBlogger, and more generically, numerous food bloggers who are also generating a lot of traffic.
