I HAVE WORKED IN THE RESTAURANT INDUSTRY FOR 30 YEARS IN NEW ORLEANS AND FOR THE MOST PART, MANY N.O. RESTAURANTS ARE CLEAN AND SANITARY. BUT THE EXCEPTIONS ARE EXCEPTIONAL. I COULD TELL YOU SOME HORROR STORIES. I LOVE TO SHARE AND HAVE GREAT, TRUE, TALES TO TELL; MANY OR THEM INVOLVE TAILS. E-MAIL ME WITH N.O. RESTAURANT AS THE SUBJECT.

Have we forgotten theme restaurants. I spent my youth dressed as Heidi serving spaghetti – really bad pasta experience was had by all!

Laurie/JenJen, yes the spelling mistakes are a great indicator. But bearing in mind my own performance on this blog I’m not throwing stones at that one quite yet.

your list made me laugh. I just went to a place that served “Balmail Stir Fry”, I assumed they meant Balmain.
It was only a casual eatery/take away place. But still, you expect them to at least know how to spell the suburb they’re in.

The best indicator of an annoying restaurant is, for me, when the waiter asks you, “So, do you know how it works here?” As if you’ve never been to a restaurant before…which is the point, I guess, because inevitably there’s some cute menu or ordering process that follows this question. Ugh.

And remember the spelling mistakes…

Even in civilization, ie Canada, I’ve seen far too many menus with more typos on a page than I have fingers and toes. Guess what? If they can’t be bothered to proofread their menus, they probably can’t be bothered to make sure the ingredients are fresh or the dish tastes good.

Worst spelling mistake? Here in Sri Lanka, Chainees Restaurant for the name. Think about it for a moment…

I tend to avoid any restaurant that advertises.
