Cin, pronounciation is strange in England mainly because immigrants wanted to seem English so pronounced foreign surnames in an English way. EG Beauchamp pronounced Beecham or Berkerly is pronounced Barclay. EE-Sher is correct but I have no idea why. According to my mum Shrewsbury is pronounced Shro if you are from Wales or the obvious way if you are English.

I swear that there are some strange pronouciations of towns there. I was trying to get to Esher by train once and was saying 'ESH-ER' but the ticket guy refused to understand me for many long minutes before saying 'Oh, you mean 'EE-SHER'. What the???

How exciting to see my postcard has reached you! Just HAD to check out your blog to see it, of course. :)

I dont know who's getting your "home made one printed on a crappy bit of postcard-sized photographic paper", but I think it's very nice that you took the trouble to MAKE one, rather than just buy it from a shop!

And to answer your question... posh people call it "Shrowsbury" but to us plebians, it's simply Shrewsbury! :)
