Top 103 (or so) Aussie food bloggers: Part 1

by Ed on August 17, 2006

Sometimes it is difficult to split food and wine bloggers because some cover both. This is the expanded list based on the link rankings from Technorati over the past couple of weeks, which means this ranking is out of date. For instance, I already know that I have dropped two places behind The Old foodie and I Love Milk & Cookies but at some point I have to stop updating as I’m a technical clutz and do this by hand – next time. I’ll post the entire list by this time next week.
There is a correlation between traffic, and therefore popularity and links. The one exception is old fashioned media such as the Sydney Morning Herald which has a food blog of sorts but only has around ten links. Because it is part of an old media property and established mass market website it will be getting the most traffic.
I’ll note three blogs with rocketing popularity, Cook Anything Once, I love Milk and Cookies and The Old Foodie. To achieve what they have takes dedication, with in the case of The Old Foodie daily updating of the blog with astonishingly original and fascinating content going back to the middle ages. The other two are up there for being social, joining in with the various weekly and monthly food events but also being regular posters, steadily building links but also admiring glances for the quality of recipes and photography.

Dear Ed, Thankyou so much for your kind words about my blog. I would not be anywhere on that list had it not been for your kind advice and support a few months ago when I started. I must say I am thoroughly enjoying the whole blogging thing very much.

Hey Ed

Great idea and a great list. As a pommie ex-pat living in Sydney I have already found a lot of great stuff in some of these (and your own) blog(s)!

Keep it up and have a great (and sunny) weekend

Ross

Hi Janet, It was a shame I didn’t get to write about you in the G–rmet Traveller thing but I was so tight on space and they almost dictated what I should say. I’m glad you’ve discovered the secret of blogging. Apart from the social aspects, it seems to be so much a better format than email that can so easily become stuck in the email clog. This way it’s a database out there for ever. And I mean it about your content. most of us all do similar things but yours is genuinely unique manifest in the rise in your popularity.

Ross, thanks for the comments and funnily enough it is sunny down here in Melbourne.

Hey thanks for the mention. It’s very encouraging. And to see how much the Aussie food blogging community is growing is great.
