Is manchego missing from your shopping bag?

The cheese that should have been in my shopping bag

Two weeks ago this cheese should have been in my shopping bag. I saw it being sliced at a well known and expensive deli stall in Prahran Market. I paid near $60 for it and a dozen other items. The woman who serves me comes out from behind the counter and places the pile of neat packages wrapped in white paper in my bag.
Yet eight hours later on Saturday evening I search for it in the fridge and it was nowhere to be found. Funnily enough I wasn’t offered a receipt.
One week later jak drops a small fortune for nearly 20 items, including the $15 miniature tin of anchovies. the next day I search for the bacon, that’s the bacon she pointed too and saw the guy at the stall wrap up. It wasn’t there. Coincidentally there was no receipt.
This has happened to both of us a couple of times before this year. That’s at least six times that we can recall and we are nine months into the year. it’s a scam.

Food fascist

Do I:

1. just stop shopping there and not make a fuss?

2. return buy loads of stuff and catch them out? I’ll ask them to put it in my bag. As I’m about to leave I’ll ask for the receipt then remove everything from the bag to discover what’s missing. then I can shout to the other shoppers: “Have you ever noticed how stuff you buy here goes missing?” they’ll all shot “yes”. I’ll kick myself for not recording it for Youtube.

3. defame this stall by giving you it’s name? They’ll send legal fan-mail, which I publish on this blog.

4. check myself into a mental health clinic?

5. Consider you have that disorder where you get up out of bed in the night in a dream state and eat all the food out of the fridge, yet have no memory of it.

hm…might be time to set up a fridgecam?

Can you blame the cat?

Or you could perhaps return to the shop and ask about your manchego? They may have simply forgotten to put it in your bag, and are waiting for you to return and ask after it. Chances are they’ll remember you, and your cheese.

Gill, I know the cat likes cheese but I don’t think we can blame him for the bacon and other missing goods.

Linden, I actually did return and ask about the cheese. No help, no giving me the benefit of the doubt. I was a bit annoyed. Especially when it happened to Jak after that incident.
