While the wild wind and rain hammered St Kilda on Sunday, once again Neil over at Food for Thought and I had one of those weird mind melds where we end up blogging pretty much the same things.
This day I was mooching around the famous cake shops of St Kilda. So was he.
In the 1930s and 40s this street was the centre of the local Jewish community, which is also home to one of the largest populations of holocaust survivors outside of Israel.
These cake shop are famous across Australia and people just come to stare into their windows. The cakes themselves are of the old-fashioned Eastern European variety. Most are stodgy, they come in large portions and some are so dense that they could sink a battle cruiser.
Jak gets what she calls a “snot sandwich” (custard sandwiched between puff pastry) while I plump for a Bismarck-sized cream eclair.
Now this eclair is big. It is so big that when I bite into it the cream shoots out. It smears my face, shoots up my nostril and lands on a freshly washed dog, lurking under the coffee table.
I can still smell cream but can’t tell if it’s from my nostril or the dog. Perhaps it’s both.

that looks heavenly!
Some people might think that us writing about the same things a little spooky - me, I just think great minds think alike.

ooooo… those look yummylicious!
Angeleyes, it was delish but it’s an odd sensation to have cream squit up the nostril.
