G'day. If you're new here, and you are interested in the Melbourne food and drink scene you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed or the email newsletter below. Thanks for visiting and enjoy eating and drinking in Melbourne. Cheers.
Something has changed in the dynamics of food blogging in Melbourne. I started this blog in July 2005, began to find my feet the following September and now, on the day of my 400th entry, I have a better idea of why people visit.
There are two ways people find this blog, through links from other blogs, internet forums (especially Vogue) or websites and through internet searches in Google, Technorati or the local blog search site Gnoos.
At first people were mainly interested in tomatoes (and probably disappointed) and whether or not Anthony Bourdain is gay (not, I’d say).
Participation in blog events builds links which directly equal traffic.
But in September 2006 and continuing this month it was to find out about Lau’s Family Kitchen. People wanted a review of his new joint and at the time there were no reviews published on newspapers. And they turned up there because of the review on this blog. Then Confessions of a Food Nazi found people stared visiting because of an entry of Fifteen Melbourne, the local version of Jamie Oliver’s project to train up underprivileged in a restaurant kitchen.
To date the Melbourne media hasn’t reviewed the restaurant but two bloggers, Vicious Ange and Tummy Rumbles have and I’d bet it is driving traffic to their sites.

…and porterhouse with a marbling score of 12.
Then there is the reason I’ve published these pictures of Wagyu. After I blogged the about an upcoming Wagyu week at Jamon my neighbour, Rob, visited the Barossa. At the Torbreck winery he met cellar door manager Scott who read about a Wagyu week here and because of that decided to visit.
And so it was that the reader met the blogger and vica versa last week over a memorable lunch where the Wagyu courses reached double digits.
And if were disappointed that this content didn’t match the pictures: more Wagyu coming soon.
