The boat to Battambang

You’ll want food for the eight hour trip to Battambang, the most beautiful boat trip in Cambodia. Plenty of locals will hassle you to buy French sticks bananas and water.

The tiny bananas are delicious.

But whatever you don’t don’t sit on the roof unless you want a very pink sore evening.

Aaaaaah, Flashbacks!
I did the Siem Reap -> Pnomh Penh boat trip on the rrof. Left at 7am, bloody freezing, everything we owned got completely soaked and our sunscreen got washed off. The noise from the engine meant I couldn’t hear my friend screaming in my ear. At about 10 the sun came out and we slowed down, so without the sunscreen that had been washed off, we ended up all pink and blistery. Still, it was better than the bus trip!

Bad luck on the sunburn. We missed out on the Phnom Penh one but this boat is smaller than that one I think and a bit quieter. Packed though. My bum really ached after 8 hours on the thin wood bench.

Looks so exciting.

This is luxury compared with the Siem Reap – Battambang boat a few years ago: open fiberglass, no cushions, no sun cover, and inevitably a driver who manned the motor at two speeds: on or off. In the dry season when the water was low, the boat would unfailingly get stuck in the middle of the lake.
