I’m back on street food and the BBQ snake looks particularly good.

RIMG0073.JPG

These look like little bears but are actually frogs. Not today as I ate a ponds worth yesterday.

The snake comes with a salt and pepper mix, fresh herbs and limes. RIMG0076.JPG

I chew on the skin and it does taste good. Why shouldn’t it? It is no different from eel and the snake tastes a bit like smoked eel which I guess is from the BBQ. It is very bony though. rather than eat with my fingers I would prefer to remove the meat and eat in a salad.

Here I go:

Brilliant! Provided you’ve not come down with anything since you posted.
I want to see you eating spider soup next!

Something about snake makes me nervous…when I was living in Korea, grandpa came home one day with a bottle of snake wine (pickled snake included) and I couldn’t even look at it.

As for the frog, I spent a few minutes tilting my head and trying to figure out the frog shape but have given up. They look like bear paws?

Sounds like the gastronomical aspect of the holiday is quite interesting so far!

BBQ Snakes? Umm.. no thanks, I don’t think I’m game enough for it. The frogs on the other hand I’ve had before, they taste like chicken!

Happy New Year!

Kylie, if I get time there is a whole village that sells nothing but spider. Tomorrow though, off to Loas where there are plenty of exotic species to try.
Paz, interesting but not everyday fare.
Ellie, I love the look of those snake wines and saw loads in Vietnam. Sadly I’m told Australian customs tends to confiscate them. Maybe rat paws?
IlingC, everythiong tastes like chicken. Apparently, deep fried spider too.

I’d give anything a go - at least once! All sounds fascinating if not out-and-out delicious…

Make mine a small python to go thanks… I’m feeling hungry.

Jules, It was very good but I think for many of these people it is one of the proteins of last resort.

Matt, I was feeling hungry but more about my bottom later.
