I’ve no idea what the Tazziberry used to be called. All I now is that at $5 it was $3 cheaper than the Blueberries at the market last week. And so I made the mistake of trying whatever this rebranded fruit really is.
The Tazziberry website doesn’t give much clue to what they are either and after eating some I really can’t be bothered to find out.
About the size of a blueberry, but with more in common in appearance with a rosehip it is a strange fruit. The flesh is white with small pips in it and the taste isn’t unpleasant. It has a sort of apple flavour crossed with a guava.
That would be okay if it was a soft berry that burst in the mouth. But this isn’t. It is very fleshy, with course skin that appears to be much thicker than the blueberry. The problem is that the ratio of course skin and pips to actual flesh is too high.
I will finish eating them. But I won’t buy them again.

Originally the myrtus berry from Chile. Growing in TAS since the mid-90s(?). Sounds like the company is still looking for a peg – suspect they’re more of an ingredient than something to be consumed fresh.
I wonder what the pectin levels of it are? With that flavour and texture, it sounds like it could be an interesting experiment to try and turn it into a jam!
Hey Pussycat – that sounds very 70s doesn’t it -. just had to say it.
Ellie, you could be right. Jam. Although it could be too expensive at this point.
Hi Ed,
I saw them at the market a few weeks ago and indulged in a few freebie samples- they tasted like and resembled blueberries. So maybe they should be called redberries?
