Looks like there already is an underground restaurant in Melbourne, Zingara Cucina and the only way to get in is by referal.
Anybody fancing referring a few bloggers? We’ll invite you to our underground dining experience and it looks like we’ve found a pretty sexy chef.

Intriguing indeed. I’d be interested in going… any requirements?
I have no idea although I’d expect food inspectors, taxmen and journalists are probably excluded.
I’ve been to Zingara & it is absolutely fabulous!! Al be it next to impossible to obtain a booking, seems as though their not in it for the exposure, but the passion. I guess their selectiveness comes down to skiting the law though? Risky business!
so, Penelope, are you going to recommend us so that we can get in?
Penelope, I’m prepared to keep mum over the essential details for a referal. No associations with food standards, the tax office and still punk at heart.
Hi Ed I would recommend, but I guess I dont really know you? I think the whole idea is to only recommend people you either really know, or really trust.. but hey, we can give it a shot!
I can tell you it leaves the likes of il baccaro, florentinos and every other snooty italian restaurant for dead.. they shaved truffles at the table for peets sake!! amazing stuff..

Now you are taunting me. hang around and read me and come to our underground experience (details hopefully coming soon) and maybe you’ll decide I’m worthy. i recently went to Simone’s which I think also leaves all those places for dead so it does sound exciting. Shave truffles at the table…speechless…
I will be in AU, Sydney and Cairns for honeymoon Dec. Would like to take my sweetie to an underground restaurant. We love great food, atmosphere, adventure, and wine. Any help available. We realize it is by invitation only.

RC, there really aren’t any underground restaurants to speak of in Australia such is the thriving restaurant scene.
