Observer food blog arrives

by Ed

Though I live in Australia each month The Observer Food Monthly is required reading online and then in print (sent by my mum). This week it launches its food blog with restaurant critic and writerJay Rayner contributing among others.
He seems to have the right idea in his first post although there are more than half a dozen food blogs out there worth engaging with:

“Although we could, as an organisation, point to a long and venerable history online, in the food blogging business we are, of course, the newbies. And as such we thought it would be good to bend the knee to a few of those already out there in the field that we love and adore.

It should be said that this ‘royal we’ is the kind of conceit old media can’t stop itself employing, in an attempt to telegraph its authority, for we are assuming the wisdom of crowds.”

Thanks for the link, I just can’t help admiring his ‘inverted’ compliment to Pim, slightly emetic but still worth reading…
