I remember catching yabbies when I was younger. I tried to keep them as pets but they kept killing each other. So instead I poured them all into hot water and ate them. They were tasty indeed. Though it is probably one word I wouldn't use metaphorically. It does conjure up a certain sense of execution and slaughter which you do get from the edibalisation of many crustacea together.
