Obviously I have to be writing about the first TV cook I can remember watching, Fanny Cradock.

My kind of breakfast too. Perhaps I should have chosen the moniker Bijou instead of Stickyfingers?
My earliest TV favourites in England along with the Magic Roundabout, The Herb Garden and Sooty & Sweep were Fanny & Johnnie Craddock’s cooking show and Graham Kerr ‘The Galloping Gourmet’. All were replaced by Bernard King on my arrival in Australia. It seems I have a penchant for potty Gourmands.
I grew up reading Fanny’s recipes, Mum collected her magazine style cookbooks available by mail order, I think, and later bound them in dark green plastic folders. Fanny was the queen of the piping bags. I recall lurid patterned gowns and mission brown decor, earthernware casserole dishes and the two Ronnies sending her up. I wonder if future generations reminisce about Nigella with such sweet sentiment?
Hehe, what a gal…
The first TV cook I can remember seeing was… wait for it…
*singing* come and get it, come and get it, with Peter… Russell… Claaarrrkkk!
Hehe, I used to get quite cranky if someone changed the channel when he was coming on. Ah, to be 4 or 5 again…
Oh my God i remember peter russel clark, now thats taking me back.
Ed, FYI Peter…G’Day…Russell…G’Day….Clarkkkkk was a hirsute, diminutive Melbourne AdMan of Singo’s vintage who had a short cooking show. He was also well known for his work for the Australian Cheese Board who happened to be an Ad client and his catch cry was “Where’s the cheese?!!”
He left advertising to live on a lemon farm, which turned sour and became a financial lemon. I still see him in and around South Melbourne/Albert Park occasionally, sporting his signature neckerchief.
So funny - Peter Russell Clark rocked. I think I had his kids cooking book. It taught you how to cook an egg, make toasted fingers etc.
They need to bring back more cooking shows for kids - teach them what real food is instead of just advertising junk food to them during cartoon ad breaks.
