Menu of hope: last chance to help Packers save face

by Ed on December 21, 2007

Kerry Packer calls me from beyond the grave.

“Son,” he says. “I need your help. This is embarrassing because there are as many people who want your dodgy home made stout as want to go on a photoshoot with Gourmet Traveller.”

Now Kerry was a gambling man, a very good one at that. With four tickets sold he explained that the chances of winning a place on the photoshoot are pretty good. It turns out he couldn’t care a stuff about my stout, just that it may end up more popular than his magazine.

There is about a day (10pm Saturday night Australian time) before the Menu of Hope online raffle ends. You can buy tickets for my beer (AP16) or for a whole days shoot with Gourmet Traveller (AP38).

What you also need to do is stop me winning the AU$100 gift voucher from the Prince Wine Store (AP12) from At My Table as I have bought one of three tickets sold.

As it turns out the Goddess in the Kitchen’s weekend at her estate in Dromana is twice as popular as either my stout or Gourmet Traveller despite the dodgy benchtops (although there is a woodfired oven that sleeps four).

Go to First Giving and buy tickets
for US$10 each and enter the codes of the prizes you would like to win. Check out the full list of Australia Pacific Prizes together with odds and the global prize list.
Come on it’s for starving kids. Black ones in Africa!

And while you are thinking of them remember the restaurant meals you could win:

AP27 Special Tuesday night Chef’s table degustation dinner for two people with wine at Attica, Melbourne (valued at AU$200, valid on Tuesdays only) from me.

AP13 Degustation dinner for two with matching wines at Interlude, Melbourne (valued at $AU400) from At My Table.

So if I’m lucky enough to win a dinner with Stephen, we might be barred before we even begin and Kerry Packer may haunt my dreams if I were to win your stout. Think I’ll try my luck at getting barred, my dreams probably aren’t big enough for Kerry.

Neil, Stick with Stephen. The blog post will be better especially if you are banned.

I love the concept of Menu for hope and appreciate that Pim set it up to aid the Tsunami victims. I hope she raised a ton of spundoolie. But now, down the track does it have to be at Christmas, when our resources are stretched for the most expensive month of the year?

Although I keenly wanted to participate, I just couldn’t afford to bid this time around – catch me in May when not much happens and I’d be throwing bids around abundantly. But December in the Stickyfingers Clan and associates sees five birthdays, as well as the expense of gifting and dining during the silly season….and this year they threw in some weddings…Bridal Registry with gifts priced at $700…oy? We’re skint!
