“Fingers crossed customs will b nice! Will u b in the city tom afternoon/eveni?”

Hmmm. The number wasn’t in my phone but I texted that I would anyway.Another text from another mystery number:

“I will b at hairdresser in melb central from now …if you are able to pick up macs…should have them today if poss. Let me know if this is doable.”

Finally I receive a call and the mystery is solved. Cindy from A Few of my Favourite Things has brought

She’s a marvel, isn’t she? I was also a very lucky recipient of some of these and I had to quarter them to share them with the rest of the family! How much did you LOVE the salted caramel one?

apologies for not signing off when I changed phones, but I hope that the macarons were worth the confusion (sorry, no drugs!).

I’m just glad that customs let them through although they did admire them for a while. fortunately, it was after morning tea and they let them go with some reluctance.

When you find something this good, it would be a crime not to share! The salted caramel was definitely our favourite, Ellie :)

Ed and Ellie, you two are very lucky. There is a macaroon buzz in the Melbourne Blogosphere. I’m still waiting for Duncan’s recipe post so that I can make heaps of them and give as Christmas presents to everyone.

The presentation of the Pierre Herme macaroons are really cool. I’m going to try and emulate those for my gifts.

HMMMM Macroon ENVY!

I love the Laduree Macarons and there are so-ooo many flavours. I get my fix in Honkers when visiting the family.

Ellie, i hope you post yours to add to the buzz.

Cin, it all made for a better story. Although I thought the worst and despite my previous post I rarely go near you-know-whats. I’m very surprised they got through. It bodes well…

Thanh, ditto.

Sticky,Laduree look good. I’ve just returned with Laurent from Little Collins St. Very heavy and sticky, a very heavy touch. Not much eye for detail either. Shame.

Well I might have to get in on the macaroon action by making myself some too

hehehe… I’m jealous, Ed! It’s interesting that the French macaron-houses are more accessible now due to their Asian outposts. Interesting, too, would be a quality comparison. Those Herm

Ange, good idea. Duncan I’m in.

I saw the pictures you posted on another site and read about your interest in eating random animals of all sorts. I think you are a dispicable human being and I hope that one day you are lost in the desert and are pecked on by the desert wildlife until your flesh is gone and you’re nothing but a guilty conscience.

Duncan – Les macarons de Laurent have been inconsistent since Head Patissier/Boulanger of sweets, David Menard left (the Head on the savoury side is I believe still Richard Reymond, another Frenchie). David comes from five generations of Breton Bakers and les petite macarons at his Bakery at Noisette in Bay Street, Port Melbourne are lovely. I suspect he also sells to Cacao in St.Kilda, as he has them in a display case alongside Cacao’s hand made chocolates.

As for the hostile remark from Heather, Papa Stickyfingers has always said, “Put an omnivore with no fear of eating the exotic in the desert and they will out live all others.” Perhaps you need a better analogy for your barbs?

i thought I’d leave heather’s comments as I thought it was funny as I have no idea what pictures or random eating she is talking of – unless it was some pictures of dog in Vietnam. Heather, could you give me a clue?

Sticky, ‘farid macarons no more at Cacao. I had the urge just now but am settling in to eat 439.60 of chocs this arvo.

barbara December 8, 2007 at 2:52 pm

I’m insanely jealous.

Duncan | Syrup&Tang December 10, 2007 at 11:32 pm

@sticky — thanks for the extra background about Noisette and Cacao. I’m probably heading down that way tomorrow… oh wait, that’s today now.

Well, for everyone else, permit me to say that the second part of my macaron event is now up and it contains… a recipe!
