The markets in Cairns has rambutan and mangosteen at no-second-mortgage-needed prices! Yum. The supermarkets are embarrasingly limited.

And I recall seeing a funny sign on our way up to Port Douglas at a random supermart: white bread on special $1.99 for two. Price of the exact same product for one: $2.50. Placed conveniently right next to each other. These QLDers been out in the sun too long.

Yes try Ferry Road markets good produce at a price! Have a coffee there at the Merlo coffee shop flavoursome coffee that is not bitter.
Dinner at a little French place called Champagne is worth a visit kind of quirky in the glitz of the Gold Coast!

Oh come on the supermarkets are not that bad up here and I don’t know of anyone that buys spam or drinks XXXX. Maybe up in Cairns? Besides we have quite a few really good farmers markets to get cheap and amazing fresh fruit.

You’ll find most Gold Coasters drink the southern beers (considering most people have moved from Melbourne or Sydney) such as VB or Carlton Draught. Did you get to the Ferry Road Markets in Southport? If you’re after suggestions on restaurants up here then check my blog and website. We went to Songbirds last weekend at Mount Tamborine and it was amazing – it won regional restaurant last year.

Stephanie, there is promise though – an Illy cafe has arrived although he’s still on training wheels.
