I suppose the print media have to jump quite a way from what they are familiar with in order to transition in mindset from a traditional format to the digital medium. Overseas Publishers have the savvy hand of interactive experts to guide them, whilst in Australia these people are still thin on the ground. I would however have thought that it would have been common sense for GT to consult popular blogs of a similar ilk such as The Guardian and The New York Times for reference before venturing into the medium.
