Nineteen Squares, great coffee, wireless and the morning sun

There are a few new decent coffee places in St Kilda but right now there is a bit of a buzz about Nineteen Squares on the Peanut Farm side of Blessington St. I first heard about it from a neighbour, then down at the dog park. And it looks like becoming a popular spot for dog walkers. Inside it is tiny and there is little more room outside for owners or their dogs (there were about seven dogs there this morning).
Today I just missed a rain shower catching the winter morning sun, a couple of latte’s and one of the permutations on custard tarts. Not only is the coffee good (although it seems to be random whether I get a latte or a flat white) but it also has fast wireless internet.
At the risk of sounding a wanker, I was able to check my email and RSS feeds on the new phone I’m determined not to mention (In my defence, Optus had been trying to persuade me into a new phone for two months and the battery needed replacing).
Over the other side of St Kilda on Fitzroy St, next to Chronicles Books by the old French Embassy, Embassy@97 is receiving good reports. Time for a visit perhaps.

Stumbled upon Nineteen Squares in April when visiting my sister in Melbourne. The food options were great for a quick bite at 3pm, and we sat outside on the same table and little stools. Coffees and hot chocolate were great, and the guy was very friendly and efficient. I fell in love with the little recycled bottles of brown sugar – but that’s probably because I live in Adelaide and we’re about 5 years behind Melbourne’s cafe culture. There were a couple of dog owners there too at the time, come to think of it.

I’m a local and I went for the first time on Saturday. The coffee, made by an adorable barista was perfect. I’ll definitely be going back…..for the great coffee ofcourse!

I’ve been there many times since its opening in 2008. I never noticed any dogs (there might have been a few, though, but I didn’t notice them), the coffee was always perfect, and on top the food always excellent. You should have mentioned that. And taken a nicer picture…

Yes, the food is good. Sadly pictures are getting worse as the iPhone is always with me.
