I‘m in Dubai but not in your usual hotel. I’ve picked low rise a traditional building in one of heritage areas, near the textile souks. The thing you notice in Dubai is that you meet everybody but the local Arabs.
This is a city that has grown incredibly fast build on the blood and sweat on Indians, Pakistanis and Phillipinos to name but a few.
Because I’m stupis I’ve chosen to visit during Ramadam. This means it is illegal to eat in most restaurants and I can’t eat in the street yet I am starving. I found this place, one of many traditional Indian shops. You’ll find similar in Australia in Dandenong. This ones sells traditional sweets and vegetarian food.
I buy a couple of sweets made with (I think) ground nuts and condensed milk, a fresh green variation of Bombay Mix and a paratha with a vegetarian chilli mix on top which I take back and eat in my room.
The tang and bite of the chilli topping awakens my leaden traveller’s tongue – all for a couple of dollars.
Simply because of the population, the city is packed full of Indian restaurants, some like Indego at The Grosvenor Hotel amon the most expensive in the city, but others offering incredible value.

thanks kusito
I’ve a great friend who works in Dubai – some big smarty-pants job with Emirates – and she takes my partner out to one of the insanely loud Lebanese restaurants when he’s in town.
Indian…now THAT would be better. I always crave veg and spice when travelling. The Bombay mix looks really, really good.
Love that door, by the way. One of my favs in your photostream.
Ed…
Chappan Bhog is a great Indian place to visit in Dubai to try Indian Chaat (snack food). They have branches all over the place.
Dishes to look out for:
1. Bhel Puri
2. Pani Puri
3. Pav Bhaji
4. Vada Pav
None of these are too hot…. and very interesting plus delicious
Kusito, I’ve just done a post on the excellent hotel I stayed in.
Lucy, sometimes the comments is quite slow so if you press twice…The door is in the original old fort. I’m surprised in the harsh light how well the pics came out. Thanks. I love that style of door.
Shreya thanks, but I’m on my way now.
